Second grade is a very important year for the second grade students as they receive two sacraments: Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist! First Reconciliation takes place in December, and First Holy Communion in April.
Another highlight in second grade is that we learn cursive writing!
Second grade is also the year we perfect our decoding and reading fluency skills. It is through the use of leveled readers and storybooks that the students practice these skills on a daily basis. The students begin to write paragraphs and stories about the topics and themes found in the stories.
In Math we learn many strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. The students enjoy learning how to work with larger numbers, especially adding and subtracting.
Additional second grade highlights include-
- Weekly Mass and daily prayer, including the rosary
- Center Based Learning
- Instructional aides and volunteer
- Differentiated instruction in reading and math
- Good News religion magazine
- Weekly bible class
- Six student computers
- Reading With Partners-4th grade
